Difficulty adding users. Looks like wordpress is recruiting new blogs. Bad.

I am trying to add a user as an editor to my Textiles and Text, R. John Howe blog.
I’ve sent the prospective user an invitation but what comes up for them is what seems like an effort by wordpress to recruit people to establish new blogs. More, folks can’t tell where they establish a user name and password in order to serve as an editor.
This is very confusing and effectively interferes with the ability to establish new users.
Please respond. This is a serious problem for me

the also get a blog seems to be a bit in your face – there is a check box or something to skip getting a blog – a blog is however reserved for the account name – yes a bit of an irritant but warn your folks about it and that should help a bit

I am trying to add a user as an editor to my Textiles and Text, R. John Howe blog

What is the URL of that blog?
And exactly which username account registered it?

    Is it this one? http://rjohnhowe.wordpress.com/

The person needs only to create a username account and there is an option for that provided for that purpose “username account only, please”.

Here is what the relevant support doc states:

They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.

Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.

If the person is not successful post again and provide all the details including the email address of the person. The software will redact ie. HIDE the email addresses so only Staff can see them. After you do that subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

This recruiting move changes the entire subject and leaves newly added users entirely confused.

    I don’t see a “skip” alternative.

I just want a new user whom I have invited be able directly to create a user name and password.

If you read the sequence “timethief” suggest is necessary it’s way to complicated. I’m not sure I could tell a new user what to do.

    This needs to be changed.

    Gert rid of the recruiting.

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble you’re having with this process. A new user can create just a username and password (without a blog) at this link:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

Then, they can click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email they received from you.

Our team is looking into ways to improve this invitation and signup process, and we appreciate your feedback!

    Rachelmcr –

This doesn’t solve the problem it just redoubles it. It still looks like the person facing this screen is being asked to set up a new blog (not become a “user” on someoneelse’s blog).
I frequently have presenters who (necessarily) edit, on-line and at a distance, a draft post I’ve made on one of my two blogs. Lots of these folks have no time for opaque processes and directions.
What I need is a simple way to let a presenter, whom I have invited to be a user, set up a user name and password WITHOUT getting blindsided by wordpresses recruiting objectives and processes.
I have three posts to be edited by three different people and am not willing to subject them to the current complexity and side issues that have been introduced into what should be a simple way for a prospective user to establish their own user name and password.
I’m “dead in the water” on future posts that require any on-line editing.

    Hi John,

Sorry for the confusion! If you go to that link while logged in to a WordPress.com account, you’ll see a page where you can sign up for a new blog on your account.

However, if you log out (or if someone visits it on their computer, not logged in to WordPress.com) you’ll see a signup page for creating a new account without a blog.

I hope that clears it up, but please let me know if you have any additional concerns about that.

    Hi John,

One other thought — if you mainly just need other folks to edit drafts that you’re writing, you might want to use the Request Feedback feature instead. With that feature, you can send a draft post to someone to read and comment on, and they don’t need to be a user on your blog to do it. That might be a better option for your needs!
