Difficulty Organizing Sidebar

I would like to add another widget to the sidebar that reads as ‘Other Writing Samples.’ Is this possible? Also, my ‘About the Writer’ and ‘Contact’ pages are not showing up in the sidebar.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi there,

You can add as many widgets to the sidebar as you want. You do that at Appearance ->Customize ->Widgets.

To add a new widget, start by adding the Widget Group block. If you just want to add a bunch of links to samples of your writing, either on your site, or elsewhere on the web, you can just add a regular list block inside the Widget Group block.

Also, my ‘About the Writer’ and ‘Contact’ pages are not showing up in the sidebar.

    I can see them there:

For that list you’re using the legacy Pages widget. That widget automatically shows all published pages on a site, and as both those pages are published, they’re also included in that widget.

The Pages widget reflects the page hierarchy on your site, so if you assign a page a parent page, the widget will display it nested below the parent page.

I hope that answers your questions, but let me know if anything isn’t clear :)

Hi: After attempting (and failing) and add widgets to the sidebar and organize pages in the sidebar, I removed my one and only widget. This wiped out my entire sidebar, and after following the directions for restoring pages, I have been unable to do so.

  • Hi again. I’ve merged the new thread you created with your earlier one where I replied to you yesterday.

I can still the the Page List widget active in your sidebar – it looks just like it did when I viewed your site yesterday. Did you manage to figure it out?

Thanks, Kokkeih, eventually I did manage to figure it out. Going forward, I think I’m going to use the classic widget instead of the block widget editor.
