Digg Help
-
Alright, so maybe I’m dumb for asking, but I’ve got a free wordpress.com blog, and I’m trying to add a “Digg This” button. I’m looking to create a tag in a text editor that I can copy and paste into each post, so I guess an tag. Is it even possible to do this? I know how to link to digg’s homesite, but can I even make a 1-click button to dig a post without plugins or java? Thanks so much in advance.

Not really. You can add in the link manually after you publish it once you get the URL for the post but there’s no built in support.

Actually, the statement isn’t 100% correct.
From my experience, you need to:
1) Manually create the story on Digg OR follow these steps to create a link (to be posted into your blog article) that will allow a visitor to submit your story (http://digg.com/tools/integrate)
2) Once you have the story link on Digg.com, you need to edit your article to manually create a link to the Digg story, which will allow people to vote (http://digg.com/tools/buttons)
3) Hope people click that link, sign in, and vote.
WHAT YOU CAN’T DO, to my knowledge is:
4) Follow the directions on this page (http://digg.com/tools/count) that show your Digg rating and automatically allows Digg users to vote for your story.
The reason is because the code you must insert into your article is nested between <script></script> tags. If you try to publish the scripting code, you just get a jumble of text appearing in your article rather than the desired logo counter.
Has anyone figured out how to get around this?

It’s not a good idea to put a “digg this” button on all your posts anyways, since that usually leads to getting a lot of posts with only 1-10 votes that quite often get marked as spam which leads to your site being banned.

What I do is I only put a big Digg button on posts that I think have a good shot of making the front page of Digg… realistically that is less than one post a month.

Can’t disagree there, however, I’m still not sure how you show your Digg counter within a free WordPress blog. You definitely should NOT submit every story to Digg (or have someone else to do it).
-
You can’t show the counter, because the counter uses javascript.
You can, however, have a big button that says “Digg This!”
