Question 3
(Marks: 20) Digital Communication Q.3.1 Discuss the ‘Internet of Things’ by explaining the concept and how you envision this to impact on the future of business and society. Create a post titled The Internet of things
Answer: THE INTERNET OF THINGS
_
We live in a world that is connected to the internet from the day we were born up until now. The internet of things connected the world in a new and diverse manner that allows human beings to become one and to instantaneously share information. Gone are those whereby we have to keep stressing about the next day and its activities on how we must run “things”, in our days the most important “thing” we got to do is to be there and everything is amen “done”. Imagine a car that allows people to live and travel in, at the same time that also lets you to be able to drive into the ocean and to multi task. While the car keeps you posted about the mileage and the time it takes to get to your next destination, or a watch that can do anything a phone can do and more by providing you with the daily news and the popular trends that are buzzing around and have the ability to check your health and be able to call for help when you are in danger. This amazing “thing” helps you to be on point as it is part of you but in the world you live in. The things of the internet are forever developing and helping people to do things easier, faster, safer and better by providing a step that gets you to the biggest bridge and back in just a blink of an eye.The world is full of “things” that were first imaginable but now all those things are visible in our naked eye. Talking on the phone is no longer dangerous as there are cars that allow you to do that in just a push of a button and it is also safer because some cars have sensors that help you to automatically brake on its own and safer. Engineers and scientists are forever expanding our imagination and taking us to new limits that are no longer limits but reality. Technology is pushing through all directions and expanding how we think as the next generation of human kind will be set and established to live in the next world.
Q.3.2 Gardner (1983) identified several aspects of intelligence. List any four and explain the importance of these levels with regard to the business context today and the impact of technology. (10)
Answer :
I think it’s safe to say that we all possess the power to be intelligent we just have to unlock this ability to better understand the world and ourselves. Intelligence is the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use our knowledge to adapt to new situations. Many people are blessed to be able to unlock their ability in a new and diverse way and there are many different types of intelligence and according to Howard’s gardener theory there are 8:
Verbal-linguistic intelligence
Mathematical-logic intelligence
Visual-spatial intelligence
Intra-personal intelligence
Bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence
Interpersonal intelligence
Naturalistic intelligence
Musical-rhythmic intelligenceBut we are going to look at just 4 of these gods given special abilities that classify us in a way that shows our differences in the world we live in.
Verbal-linguistic intelligence
This intelligence involves the knowing which comes through language; through reading, writing, and speaking. It involves understanding the order and meaning of words in both speech and writing and how to properly use the language. This type of intelligence is very useful when it comes to the business part as it allows the business to be heard by the respective stakeholders and customers. It plays an important role in the business like the pr and media consultants it is very useful when it comes to interpretation and explanation of ideas and information via language. When it comes to the tech part it has made an impact when it comes to GPS as it is useful when it translates and interprets information (signs, directions) to meaningful language. This plays a huge role in the tech business because of its ability to give out information through our gadgets and phones that we use to get that information.
Visual-spatial intelligence
This intelligence represents the knowing that occurs through the shapes, images, patterns, designs, and textures we see with our external eyes, but also includes all of the images we are able to conjure inside our heads. This type of intelligence is very useful in the business as it helps with seeing the bigger picture and to make differences between them in order to develop and update the business to move to the right direction. In terms of technology the use of images has impacted the creation of a camera. This device allows us to modify, save important and memorable information about anything. And also it is mainly used by architects to develop new landscapes and buildings.
Intra-personal intelligence
At the heart of this intelligence are our human self reflective abilities by which we can step outside of ourselves and think about our own lives. This is the introspective intelligence. It involves our uniquely human propensity to want to know the meaning, purpose, and significance of things. It involves our awareness of the inner world of the self, emotions, values, beliefs, and our various quests for genuine spirituality. This type of intelligence is very useful to the business as it helps with bringing change in the workplace and be able to change people’s behaviour in a way that will benefit the business. And it helps to bring about a certain behaviour and change personal thoughts to people. When it comes towards technology it helps to make good decisions and this is used in many gadgets that enable people to go to the right direction. This device is useful because it acts as a guide when you come across troubles (troubleshooting).
Mathematical-logic intelligence
This intelligence uses numbers, math, and logic to find and understand the various patterns that occur in our lives: thought patterns, number patterns, visual patterns, colour patters, and so on. It is very important to make good logical decisions that are followed by reasons. But also it is important to have calculated risks and look to the figures that will support that decision that you’re trying to take. And also in terms of the patterns that are very useful to be able to figure out the trail in order to help the business in terms of preparing for the future.Technology is closely related to mathematical calculations as maths holds most of the steps that allow maths to work efficiently. In terms of the network it needs certain angles and metres that will enable it to work well and with the use of numbers that can be generated and converted to useful information to better the business.
