Digital Pacific Domain name transfer query with website move
-
Hello,
I have my WordPress.com website Domain Name hosted with Digital Pacific in Australia. I want to move my WordPress.com site over to a WordPress.org and would like to know how I do that smoothly with as little disruption as possible for my website readers while remaining with Digital Pacific. And can I do that by using the paid transfer service that WordPress.com offers?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Josephine Pennicott

@zeit2play – your answer is bogus and not correct – now a waste of my time to clean up after you
@josephinetalepeddler – you can move the site yourself, if you don’t mind the Guided Transfer cost – that is certainly the easy way to go, the staff are very good moving blogs to self hosted WordPress.ORG.
Either way the domain can be moved to your new host

You should be able to also find more guidelines and help at WordPress.ORG, they are the keepers of the software you will be using

Hello Auxclass, thanks for the swift reply. I would go with the Guided Transfer cost. I think I was more uncertain about what would happen with the Domain Hosting I have now through Digital Pacific in Australia as I want to stay with them. Do I have to go through Digital Pacific to let them know they have to direct traffic to the new address at WordPress org, or is that part of what happens with the Guided Transfer and it happens automatically?

You can keep your domain registered with Digital Pacific in Australia – not a problem – I would think that in your case, once the site is set up and ready for the name servers to be changed, you would be told a time of day (make sure you get the time zone straight! :) ) for you to change the name servers
The guided transfers have been happening for over a year I think, so the Staff & Happiness Engineers are getting pretty good at doing the Transfers
WordPress.COM has a list of hosts they work with for the guided transfer
The guided transfer happens during the week, one of the Happiness Engineers will work with you to determine the best day for the move to happen – so the move is not one that will surprise you

Thank you auxclass. Appreciate your reply. I shall book one of the Happiness Engineers soon. Warmest Wishes.

Hi there,
I’m glad everything was worked out! Once you purchase the upgrade one of our Guided Transfer team members will contact you shortly!
Cheers!

Hello, I just went to purchase the transfer then and when I try to do so it says upgrade unavailable. I’m unsure of why it is saying that? I used the link given by auxclass above. Thanks in advance for your help again.

Hi there,
I see that you have the Premium Theme Elemin applied. In order to purchase Guided Transfer you must apply any one of our free themes as Premium Themes do not transfer over to WordPress.org.
Once you apply a free theme the upgrade should be available!
You can find more information about this here:

Hello, I have changed the theme back to a free theme and purchased the Guided Transfer, but on the Paypal statement it says that it’s going to charge and renew automatically annually and I have to disable it myself to prevent that. I don’t understand why a one-off payment of a Guided Transfer is saying that on Paypal and also I can’t find on my own site where I disable it. It’s most frustrating as I don’t want to have to be cancelling payments in the future through Paypal from WordPress. com. Hope you can help.
