  Hi! I want to know if I’m allowed to have direct ads on my blog if I upgrade to premium or if I just register a domain name and/or map one with WP.

  I have business friends who wish to have a space on my blog (side bar) to promote their businesses or link to their website. Will this be allowed?

  No, you are not. The only status which allows blogger-initiated advertising is the $30,000 a year VIP status.
