Directly downloading the WordPress video plugin to my WordPress.com site
-
Hi. How can I download the WordPress video plugin directly to my WordPress site? Tx
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Jeff,
It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:
However, the Premium bundle on your account includes the VideoPress upgrade so you should have all of the functionality. Is there something you’re missing?

Hi Jeremy. Not missing anything – I just saw this bit about a plug
in which allows one to read 40 different video formats. I don’t think I realise yet how much functionality I already have. But I did need to convert my Logitech camera videos to mp4 to get them to work on the site.thanks!

Not a problem Jeff! Yep, the plugin is only available to self-hosted blogs. Let me know if you run into anymore trouble with the VideoPress upgrade.

Jeremy: I was wondering about the implications of my WordPress subject site going global since I team teach the subject and my 2 colleagues may not wish to make their lectures to be globally available (even though I believe in open information systems). Is there a way of only allowing my students to see the site or the lectures?
thanks again, jeff

And one more: is there any easy way to allow only students and instructors to to log in and blog on the site but keep out everyone else?
-
Hi Jeff!
You can make your site private and add each of your students as a user on the site. This would make it so that only people who are logged in and have special permission from you will be able to see the site and videos therein.
Here are some directions for doing this:

And here’s some info on the different roles you can give users on your blog:

Let me know if I can answer any other questions! :)
