Disability recieved fourth Wed of month
-
Hello ,
I really would like to sign up with WordPress.com ,
You advertise its FREE.
But the truth I found out while signing up is it is NOT FREE.
I WAS SO EXCITED right up to you required I pay you $18.00 for one year let alone the outrages prices for other offers.
If I sound Rude I Apologize .
But I live on Disability so as you know I am Extremely Limited on funds .
By the time I pay bills I have $65.00 to my name.
I do not receive any money until the fourth Wed of every month.
Can you help me out somehow ?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

kathy101site.wordpress.com. – is up and running and cost you nothing – go ahead and start blogging – no need to pray or spend any money
The $ 18.- / year is ONLY if you want a custom domain name (your-kool-site.com in place of your-kool-site.wordpress.com) – a custom domain name is NOT required, I have one for the site linked to my name, but I also have a plain wordpress.com site that is not custom for some friends that are traveling )
-
Even if it WERE $18 a year, why couldn’t you wait till the 4th Wednesday of the month anyway?
-
I just looked at the new blog sign up – and it does now seem to try and drive you down the “paid for” route. i can see how someone could miss the “free” option – it doesn’t really look like a button whereas the $18 option does!
-
From the people that show up in the forum like the OP here – seems to me the up-sell is getting a bit in their face and confusing
-
Agreed. But as a poor person myself, if I don’t have the money for something I want but I will have it in a week, I wait a week. How hard is that?
-
Custom names are nice, but when some friends retired and started traveling, using a blog here to keep in touch with their friends. We talked about a custom domain name but decided against it to make things easier. Sucks if you are out of internet range or forget to renew things. They have the WordPress.com blog name printed on their cards and are quite happy
-
I do think the new sign-up is a bit confusing though. You could easily misread it as “you need to pay $18 to use your free blog”!
-
I appreciate Everyone comments to me today it did get confusing All .
With one who I found to be Rude and thoughtless with no thought of being kind in what she had to say. ” raincoaster “
Sometimes you need tom Stop and think before you say something
hurtful to someone you don’t know anything about.
raincoaster you are clueless about my life and I am sure you don’t care about it. You are a BULLY !
So I thought I would let you in on one of many Fact’s.
I was in a terrible head on car accident one of many life time injuries I suffer from is brain damage. So yes I get confused.
Like my Mother says ” If you have nothing nice to say than don’t say anything at all “
So I am not going to change who I am as a result of people like you.
” I treat people the way I want to be treated “
Again I want to say Thank You to everyone for explaining and for your kindness to a Newcomer .
God Bless
I am going to enjoy what I have with WordPress.com & maybe some time if I chose I will spend the money. -
Can I just say that Raincoaster is a very helpful volunteer here, but did perhaps appear quite abrupt in this thread. Its easy to do unintentionally when people can’t see your expression.
I can quite clearly see that if you are all set to start free blogging, misunderstand the sign-up and think that you have to wait until you can afford to pay, that this would be upsetting.
-
Of course I appeared abrupt. I don’t respond well to privileged simpering. If you want something but can’t afford it, don’t beg in public. If you’re confused about how to blog here for free, just ask. But don’t whine.
-
Ok ,
Once again privileged simpering and begging the public is Completely
not me as well as whining C’mon .
As I said I found it confusing . When a blog site that’s who I thought I was talking to definitely not you . Says its FREE than asks for money is misleading the consumer.
I was simply asking a question as far as I am concerned there is NO stupid question to ask . Its how you learn.
Where in my statement did I beg the public ??
I had no clue this was going to made public I thought I was talking to
WordPress.com .
So please stop getting your panties in a bunch.
I have Never Blogged before in my entire life and I want to learn how and to enjoy meeting new nice people who respect and care for one another no judgment or pre conceived attitudes without knowing anything about the person talking.
All I wish for in life is to be a me a good person to everyone .
To tandive108 and auxclass I really do Appriciate your explaining and understanding exactly why I was confused.
raincoaster please leave me out of your comments since you so obviously automatically have decided to be judgmental a make statements that are NOT TRUE.
You don’t know me and find it difficult to listen or here what I am saying.
I don’t understand why when everyone else seems to be very nice and helpful and try to explain things to me.
Have a wonderful life raincoaster this comes fro a good place . -
I don’t know you, but I had no difficulty understanding your posts.
You don’t need to pay for anything to blog here. Yes, the way the staff have set up the registration is confusing and overly-aggresive as a sales tactic. No, if you don’t have the money for an upgrade at any particular time, WordPress will not extend credit.
Do you have any other questions?
-
raincoaster,
I know you meant no disrespect to the original poster,
But if you have seen what WordPress.com now presents to new bloggers you would understand that the sales and promotion of upgrades is much more insistent than it was several years ago.
That is all well and good because WordPress.com is a business, but it can also confuse new users to this platform.
WordPress.com hosting is free, and Automattic says it will continue to be free. But when new users sign up, they now face a host of information about upgrades they could purchase.
That can be very confusing for new bloggers, new users of this platform, and it does obfuscate how folks can use this platform.
-
I will also note that folks need to carefully read what they are signing up for online, and via traditional mail, and on telephone solicitations.
