Disable all image resizing

My theme supposedly supports 1200px image width so I made all my images to that dimension prior to uploading them. This worked in the “classic” editor in the past but now all my images get downscaled to 800px. I have set the media size for Large and Medium to 0 in Media Settings but nothing changes. Any idea how to prevent this? I don’t need any resizing at all on the blog and will set all my images to the right dimensions during upload. Thanks,

It appears that the problem is the block width. I can go to the Classic Editor and everything works (images at 1200px width once I set them to Large which I have defined as 1200px in Media Settings). But as soon as I use a block in the normal editor, it shrinks everything. How do I change that? Is there a way to change the default block size to 1200px without any padding?

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure I understand what’s happening. Can you walk me through the steps you’re following in the block editor that leads to this happening?

It would also help if you can link to a specific post where we can see the resized images.

This only applies to featured images. The main column with for the theme, i.e. the width of the area where the post content appears, is up to 1032px wide with the one column layout. From the first section in https://wordpress.com/theme/twentytwenty

Even then the images shouldn’t get downscaled all the way to 800px, so I’d appreciate any extra information you can give to help us replicate this on our end.
