Disable comment boxes

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I want to disable comment boxes on my blog (shgadvisors.com). When I go to my dashboard and select any given page and click on screen options, the discussion box is already not selected. However the comment box (or “leave a reply”) still shows up on my site. How can I remove the comment box? Thank you for your assistance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If you want to disable comments on all pages, please go to Pages > All pages in your Dashboard. Then select all pages by checking the box left of “Title”. Then, go to the drop down menu labeled “Bulk Actions” and select “Edit”. Click on “Apply”, and you will see another dropdown menu next to “Comments”. Select “Do Not Allow”, and click “Update”.

This should disable Comments on all the pages you checked off.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thank you – that was extremely helpful, and it worked! I just have two more questions:
    > How do I remove the “Like” button from each page?
    > How do I remove the “meta” tag from each page?

I’ve tried to fiddle around with the widgets, but obviously I am still doing something wrong! Thanks again!

Update: I’ve figured out how to remove the “meta” tag from all my pages except for my home page. I tried to add a blank text box widget but that didn’t seem to do the trick.

I’m still trying to figure out how to remove the “like” button from all pages.
    Thanks!

Okay, I got rid of all the meta tags but still would like some advice on how to remove the “like” button from all pages. Thank you!

    Hi there,

You can do this by editing the page you want to delete likes from. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the Likes and Shares module like this:

Then uncheck Show likes and click Update!

    Cheers!

    Hi,
I actually don’t see those buttons when I scroll to the bottom of a “page edit” screen. When I scroll down beyond the text on the page, there is a box that says “writing helper” and then under that there is the line of “Thank you for creating with WordPress….” I don’t see an option like the one you shared (https://cloudup.com/c8WMJxS3o6q) to uncheck Show likes. I’d attach the screen shot if I could figure out how to send you the attachment!
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.
    Thank you!
    Summer

    Hi Summer,

Please scroll down all the way to the bottom:

Let me know if you still can’t find it! If you can’t upload the screenshot to your Media > Library and I can take a look!

    Hi Grace,
I uploaded the screenshot to my media library. I don’t see the option to do anything with Sharing and LIkes at the bottom of the page. I did find it under the Screen Options, but even when the box is unchecked (per the screenshot), the like button still shows up. I must be doing something wrong!
Thanks so much for your continued assistance.

    Hi Summer,

Ah I see what happened! Ok, so when you go to Screen Options, make sure “Like and Shares” is checked. That will make the Likes and Shares module show up right under Writing Helper. Then, uncheck the Show likes option of that module.

    Sorry for the confusion!

That worked. Thanks so much for your help (and patience)!

I’m glad it all worked out!
