Disable comments at attachment pages globally

It would be useful to have an option to disable the comments / pingback function at attachment pages.
I know, that already it is possible to do this settings at single attachments.
But from my sight it would be important to be able to switch this off globally, for the complete blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just want to second this idea. I am getting absolutely slaughtered by spam at the moment so I have switched comments off on posts older than 60 days which should help some but a LOT of the spam comments are happening on attachment pages. I know there’s not a lot that can be done but it just seems to be getting worse and worse.

Actually, there was a request put in by Staff (designsimply, if I recall correctly) to standalone WP to add bulk editing for comments/pingbacks on Media attachments. I’m not sure what or why it didn’t go through in the iterations of WP since then. Right now all you can do is bulk delete.
@inthebackofthenet-Turning off commenting after X number of days does not affect Media attachments, as far as I know. And if those comments are already marked as spam, all you need to do is hit the “Empty Spam” button in your comment dashboard.
Personally, I’ve taken the step of turning off commenting site-wide and then enabling it for each post. I upload and display far more images per post than the post itself so that is easier, for me at least. Of course this only affects new posts, but it really has saved me a lot of time.

The problem I’m having is the spam filter isn’t perfect (nor can it be) and so a lot of spam comments are either coming through as pending moderation or getting through altogether and messing up my pretty blog!! :-) I also get hundreds of spam comments in the spam folder and every now and again a genuine comment gets marked as spam so I feel like I have to sift through them to make sure I don’t delete a genuine comment by mistake. This is very time consuming. I don’t want to turn comments off altogether but I’m getting close to that stage. Anyway, not much that can be done about it but thanks for listening! :-)

Given past forum posts, that may mean that at one point you may have approved spam comments as genuine. This generally brings many more to follow. Although Akismet is generally very good about recognizing spam and will put spam in the spam folder, here are some resources that you will want to read to educate yourself to recognize those spam comments that may make it into your regular comments:

If you do find that you’ve inadvertently approved such comments go through your approved comments and mark them as spam.
If this continues to be an issue for you, you will want to open a separate thread.
