Disable featured images or remove them all
-
Hi there…
One thing about WordPress that is driving me nuts, is it’s (stupid, sorry) inconsistent usage and lack of configurability for the featured images.
If a featured image is set, it will be used in the Meta og:image tag too. For this reason, I set a featured image on a couple hundred posts (to preselect for Facebook preview), even though the Twentyten-Theme on my blog doesn’t really use featured images.
Now if I update the theme to a newer one, all those old featured images will show up somewhere where I don’t want them to.
If the post is just one image (= photo blogging) in most newer themes this image will show up as some kind of post header image if set as featured image. So the entry might look like this: “Image-X-Featured Headlinestuff Image-X-Postentry”. Why would anyone do this and not make it optional? Please either integrate some sort of “Unset featured images on all posts” maybe under “Tools” …. or … add some on/off thingy in the Design Customization that allows the user to disable featured images for the theme (but they can still be used in og:image).
Would be great. Just saying.
