Disabled Account and Transtiion

Hello, one of my clients is Leisure Sports (https://jacksonholefun.com/) and I am trying to update their website. When I try to log into their website from wordpress.com it says that the account has been disabled. I am able to log in to their website from their domain/admin. Yet the sidebar menu is missing the Appearance and plug in options. I need to update their theme to Divi Builder so that is more user friendly for my client. Can you walk me through this?

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your website. However, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.

Right, I already know this. How do I transition my site to wordpress.com and upload the Divi Builder theme? Does it cost money? Will I lose all of the content on my current website?

  • Hey there – It can get a little confusing. I’ll add a little more info, and point you in the right direction.

WordPress.com is a hosting service. What you have at jacksonholefun.com is a WordPress website, but it’s not hosted with us here at WordPress.com. There are many hosts which offer WordPress hosting.

In short, this means you nor your client would log in through WordPress.com. Instead, you would log in via this link: https://jacksonholefun.com/wp-admin

If for some reason you have trouble logging in there, you can click the very small “Lost your password?” link below the log in fields to try to reset your password.

I hope this helps and that you’re able to log into the site soon.

Once you are logged in, you should then be able to install Divi Builder on the site following their instructions here: https://www.elegantthemes.com/documentation/divi-builder/install-divi-builder/

How do I transition my site to wordpress.com and upload the Divi Builder theme? Does it cost money? Will I lose all of the content on my current website?

This is something quite different. To transition, in this case, would mean to “migrate” your existing site (where it’s hosted now) to WordPress.com hosting. This would require the following:

    1. Purchase of the Business plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    2. Choosing one of the two migration options from this page: https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

    3. Once successfully migrated, acquiring and then installing the Divi Builder theme on your site and continue with planned changes.

A successful migration means no content or data was lost and everything is where and as it should be. This is rarely a “quick” process. Usually ranges in the days to weeks time frame. We’re able to provide a good amount of support around it, and our support is top-class. If this still sounds of interest, let us know if you have any other questions and we’ll do our best to answer.
