Disabled user comments – Still hundreds per day!

I keep getting hundreds of comments on my site every day. OK akismet installed, hence go in queue for moderation..
But how is this happening ? when I have disabled WordPress user registration, and comments. Also installed wordfence software.
Annoying as I have to clear email alerts Re. these comments from my email box every day.
How are these comments being posted on my site?
