Disabling comments on pages

  Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I was unsuccessful finding anything by searching the forums.

  Originally when I created pages the dashboard editor included a checkbox to allow or disable comments for that page.

  Now — ever since system “upgrades” were done (e.g., ugly font in HTML editor) — when I make a new page the comments are turned on by default and there’s no longer an apparent way to turn them off. And I really do want to turn them off on pages.

  Am I overlooking something obvious?

  I found the answer. I needed to go to Screen Options and put a check in the box for Discussion. Once that is done, the checkbox to allow comments or not appears below the edit window. Kind of kludgey, but it works.
