Disabling comments on the Digg theme
-
I remember this from another theme that I was unable to disable comments without losing the ones that are already there. I’m currently using the Digg theme and I was wondering if there is a workaround as I’m receiving high amounts of spam that gets past Akismet and even more that I’m receiving an email for.
Thanks.
Oh and ironically the post is Things that annoy me about people on internet forums :P

Have you tried it on a test blog using that theme? Golddiggers reported that s/he was able to disable comments on posts just fine without losing comments, but not pages. On pages all comments go poof!
Just in case that indicates that the Digg theme kills all comments even on posts, try my suggestion in the other thread: Copy the comments and paste them bodily into the blog post. Quite a lot of the formatting remains the same, and all links etc work.

Just to clarify, on certain themes when comments are disabled on pages, the comments are no longer visible. The comments are, however, still in the Dashboard; they are not deleted from the blog. So, you can switch themes (or re-enable comments) if you want, and the comments will again be visible.
I know this doesn’t really help you, carocat, but i wanted to make sure people didn’t think the comments were really gone.

Apologies, I was searching, but couldn’t find anything related to my problem. Guess I wasn’t searching hard enough.
Judy: Thanks, yes, I did know that since I had the same thing happen to me a year ago and I was panicking for a little while. ;)
raincoaster: I’ve tried it on my main blog and a test blog with the same results, the post appears as if it never had comments. I will give it a go inserting them in the post though.
Thanks to both of you. :)
