disabling further comments on pages?

  hi
  is there anyway to disable further comments on pages? ive got 300 comments or so on a page on my wordpress blog, but i dont want any more comments. ive got the option of hiding all the comments, but i want the 300 odd comments to remain there.

  Some themes will delete the comments when you close comments and some won’t. My advice would be to copy ALL The comments, shut off comments, check the site to see if your comments are deleted, and then if they are Edit the post and just paste them all in at the bottom of the post. It works really well, as long as you don’t lose them from your Clipboard during the copy/paste by copying something else.

  I thought the themes HID the commments, not deleted them, rain. Or at least that has been my experience with the themes I have played with.

  Edit the post that has 300 comments & while in the editor scroll
  down & un check mark comments then click save the comments should
  still appear but no new comments will be able to be added
