Disallow search by seach engines

Hi,
I decided to start a wordpress blog and was just exploring around and importing my old posts over from blogger. When Im almost ready, I realise that i cannot block my blog from being searched by the search engines! I have selected the 2nd option “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”. When I saw the stats for one of the days, it showed that my blog was reached by typing key words! wasnt it supposed to be blocked?

If you have decided to block search engines it may still take a while for your blog to disappear from Google, Yahoo!, and Bing’s indexes.

And if the blog was set to block search engines a while after the blog was created, the search engines would have found it.
Generally it will take about 3-6 months or more to disappear from the search engines although with Yahoo, I know of a couple blogs that were deleted over a year ago and they still show up in Yahoo, so you might have a longer wait with Yahoo.

To clarify a little, the option to block search engines doesn’t affect blog pages that are already established in search engines. The setting simply blocks search engines while that setting is selected.
