Disappearance of Bell Notifications Icon in Admin Bar

  • Unknown's avatar

It disappeared or when it appears it’s set flush against the top of the admin bar itself, on all screens where the admin bar appears.

Started a few days ago. At first it was intermittent, now it’s pretty much all the time.

Firefox 124.0.1 (64-bit) and I clear my cache and cookies nightly.

    Today’s screenshot:

The area where the icon should appear is “active” regardless and when clicked brings me to Notifications.

Interesting. I use Chrome. For me, the bell shows up. What doesn’t show is the notification iframe when I click on it. In the screenshot you can see that the notification bell is clicked on, but it doesn’t show the notifications, I just got a glimpse of them for a few milliseconds. It also happens on desktop. Interestingly the iframe takes up the space, I can’t click anywhere.

Yesterday I managed to see the notifications after allowing pop-ups, but only the first time. I didn’t have time to dig a little further and try with other browsers, so that’s inconclusive.

My screenshots are from my Win10Pro PC in a web browser. And adding that the bell icon does appear in Vivaldi and Brave.

Generally speaking, I’m encountering a bit of pingpong between Notifications sliding out on the right side of my browser screen and being taken to the Reader>Notifications. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Hi there!

    Thank you for your message.

In order to verify your issue, please visit the link below on your affected browsers and check if you’re using the latest version of your browser:

If you’re not using the latest version, please update it and check if the problem still occurs.

Also, do you use any browser extensions that might affect the content of your browser and the way how it loads?

    Thanks.

Here’s Firefox https://whatismybrowser.com/w/PYYJMQB which is my main browser

For Brave https://whatismybrowser.com/w/EDE3N5F which is announcing itself as Chrome 123.

For Vivaldi https://whatismybrowser.com/w/3SBZ7AW which is being detected as out of date Chrome 122 but Vivaldi reports itself as up to date (6.6.3271.55 (Stable channel) (64-bit) )

    All on Win10Pro v22H2

do you use any browser extensions that might affect the content of your browser and the way how it loads?

The only extension installed is Evernote on Firefox. Privacy and Security settings on all browsers is Standard.

Again, this is intermittent, so it might be difficult to pin down. When I logged in and navigated to the forums, the bell icon didn’t appear. Now that I’ve accessed this thread, it appears, but not on my Forum Profile page. All in Firefox.

Hey @justjennifer sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

You’re correct in that it’s very hard to pin down the issue – I’m having similar issues with the latest MacOS and have reported them to the development team. Hopefully they’ll be able to narrow down the specific issue.

    Thanks again for the report.
