Disappeared some Categories/Change of Classic Editor design?/WP poll?
-
Please advise concerning Baskerville-2 on WordPress.com . I am not a beginner to WP Admin, I administer many WP sites. It does not seem I had been hacked (but please confirm this) as I have checked the site on many sitecheckers and Google. Rather, did the Theme’s owner make some changes which affected my website?Or did WordPress change somethiong in the Classic Editor yesterday? Below is what happened:
1, I did not receive any email or notification about changes in the Theme or WP admin design. That’s why I was surprised yesterday that the Admin design had changed, by color (adding blue where it was black before) and and forms, frames. Did WP change recently the way how the Admin looks like? I mean still the Classic Editing now.
2, Yesterday, before I noticed this change, I clicked on a poll asking me if I would recommend WordPress to my friends (I clicked the maximum point). It seemed that the changes in the Admin page occurred just after I clicked on that poll. Please let me know if that poll was a legitimate poll coming from WordPress?
3, After I opened my website’s real view, without any activity in the Admin yet (apart from clicking on that internal poll), I was astonished to see that:
– half of my Menu items’ buttons (Categories) were gone, including the Home button
– instead, 5 or so Post titles showed up among the remaining Categories as Category buttons!
– clicking on Posts I got footers like in the case of Static pages (I have never set it) and a chaotic choice of Menu buttons above…When I checked the Appearance>Menus, those Post titles where not seen there.
The changes seemed to happen “live”, as if someone else was accessing the Admin. I did not want to believe it could have been hacked, so I thought maybe the Theme’s owner or WordPress did some changes? But why no notification…?Inside the Admin (Editor) Posts and Pages did not disappear, neither Categories, so I decided to refresh the website, as well as the Customize access by clicking out and back from my original settings.
What I did next, was:
1, changed the password through the Gravatar and set two-step verification, updated my antivirus etc.
2, in Appearance>Menus manually added all the disappeared Categories again, manually adding the disappeared Post titles again (many hours of work!)
3, copied the 5 or so Posts the titles of which appeared as Category buttons on the real site without my own action (while not appeared like that in the Admin!), then I deleted those 5 Posts altogether and thankfully those unwanted Category buttons also disappeared from the real site by this. I had to manually add that Category and those Posts under it again and finally they appeared again normal.
Everything looked like saved and repaired, after this, yet I could not find the Home button. I have exported the website through the Tools just to make sure I do not lose this structure again. What else should I have done?
This had never happened to me before (I manage this site from 2014). Could you please clarify if these events were caused by
– changes by WordPress (Classic Editing changes?)
– or by changes by the Theme owner of Baskerville-2?
– or by a hacking which could not be detected by the available sitecheckers neither Google?
– is Baskerville-2 still supported well?
– did Worpress send that internal poll yesterday?Thank you!

I don’t think clicking on a Poll would affect your site. I can’t explain why things have moved around on your dashboard but there have been changes made to the colours/fonts of the wp-admin dashboard. In my case these changes happened three weeks ago.
