Disappearing

I’m using the text widget to paste in twitter code. The code is a direct copy and paste from the twitter widget. However, as soon as I click SAVE, the <script></script> disappears. It’s like a magic trick.
On the website, the only thing that then appears is code. It only happens to me. I had someone else paste in the exact same code and save – and the <script></script> stays and does not disappear. I even tried duplicating what they did, and as soon as I hit save, the code disappears. I also tried to save the version that the other person created and the code then disappears from there as well.
Has any one encountered this issue before?
I’ve tried chrome and IE, and different computers as well. I’m not using the actual twitter/wordpress widget as I’m testing code in the text widget.

The title should have said Disappearing <script> </script>. It looks like when I submitted the topic, the <script></script> part disappeared from there too. Ironic.
