Disappearing EXIF metadata in Image Carousel
-
Just to clarify, display of EXIF metadata is checked in my Image Carousel settings under Media Settings.
After uploading an image containing EXIF metadata and inserting it via the Gallery shortcode, the metadata no longer displays in the Image Carousel as it did previously. The only way now to see the EXIF data is to download the original uploaded image.
A new post with no EXIF metadata in the Carousel
An earlier post showing EXIF metadata Both images were uploaded at 1024×768 pixels. The loss of the EXIF metadata seems to occur when WordPress.com resizes the image for display in the Post or Page. The Image Carousel also appears to display a resized image (on my monitor, it’s 1000 pixels wide).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi justjennifer,
Thanks for reporting this. A few of us and see that our EXIF metadata isn’t displaying for our images either when viewing the image carousel, so I’ll report this to our developers and keep you posted with updates.

About to rip a hole in the space/time continuum by bumping this thread up after more than a week with no update.
@bryanvillarin-I know ya’ll are a bit busy right now, but hope there’s some good news, somewhere, sometime.
-
I’m afraid I don’t have any updates yet. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. The moment I hear back, I’ll be sure to post here.

I’m sorry to bump this thread and thereby ripping the time/space continuum, but as it’s now a month since @bryanvillarin’s last reply, surely someone can shed some light on why the EXIF info (other than the camera manufacturer) has disappeared from the Image Carousel.
-
This should have been fixed a few days ago, though you may need to re-upload the photo if you’re still having trouble.

Hi @macmanx-thanks for the reply.
Before posting again above I tested first by uploading a full-size image that I’d downloaded from my camera and which contained EXIF information. I then inserted it in a draft post as a Gallery. The only information that came through in the resulting Image Carousel image was the camera manufacturer.

Hi Jennifer,
I took a closer look at the issue I’ve reported and the fix hasn’t been deployed just yet. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.
-
FWIW, I’ve passed along your post draft to see if that’ll help. Thank you so much for uploading image and saving the draft.
-
Hi Jennifer,
I just wanted to let you know that a fix has been deployed which will apply for newly uploaded images.
-
Hi fotomaticos,
Thanks for reporting this and I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll add it to the notes for our developers to take a closer look.
-
@bryanvillarin-thanks for the update. As fotomaticos mentioned, we’re not quite there yet.
@fotomaticos-how are you getting your EXIF into the description field of your images?
-
bryanvillarin, thank you very much for your concern.
justjennifer, i’m adding both (short and detailed) EXIF manually.
http://fotomaticom.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/exif.jpgBy single image posts i’m getting EXIF from Flickr in table format.
-
fotomaticos-Ah, thanks for that. Used to do it that way, but I stopped uploading to flickr.

Yeah, the fix was finally committed late last night. I’m glad everything is good to go again. Thanks for following up in this thread, too. :-)
