Disappearing Followers

  Last month I had approx 100 followers. Today it lists my followers as 16.
  This is not due to by and large to followers cancelling their membership (or followership) to my blog.
  What happened?
  If you go into “users” there is a list of people/emails who accepted the invitation to follow my blog. But when you look at the page that lists followers, they are by and large not included.
  What has happened? How do I rectify?
