disappearing page templates

I selected Goran from a list of free themes and began to build a page. I liked the Front Page and Full Width templates but had to rebuild my graphic to fit better. So I signed out, did the photoshop work, signed back in: no Front Page or Full Width templates to work with.

All that shows up now is a completely different list of page styles, of which only Standard shows any graphic at all, but it’s so small the whole point of the site is DOA. How can I access the original templates? Since I selected Goran from a list of free themes it seems unlikely that I started out with a premium version of it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://stevierayvaughantribute.wordpress.com presently has the Duotone theme activated. Is that the website you are referring to? If so, then it must have been changed by an administrator of the site.

  • If you were only previewing the theme you didn’t actually activate it. That might be why it’s still showing the old theme.

Thanks for the replies. I did try using Goran and then Duotone. Nothing should be published at this point, though. I don’t think I even hit the save draft button (never mind the publish button) because nothing I tried to set up looked decent in preview.

Duotone came back (on a test run with the graphic) with text all over the graphic, whereas the Duotone page shown in the Theme search results shows the text below the graphic. Couldn’t get that to work either.

So. In Goran, which seems (or seemed) to be the only free theme that accommodates a large graphic, how do I access the Front Page and Full Page options? I signed back in to work with Goran (after signing out to rebuild the graphic and before testing Duotone) but could no longer access these pages. Are they only available in the Premium version?

    Thanks for any tips,

So. In Goran…how do I access the Front Page and Full Page options?

At Page Attributes > Template in the page editor you should have a menu with the following options:
    Default Template
    Alternate Sidebar Page
    Front Page
    Full Width
    Grid Page

This does not require the premium plan, or any upgrade.

Hmmm. Okay, so what’s happening–in every theme I’ve tried–is there is no page attributes button or icon. What page or screen do you have to be on to access it?

The only place I see page options are in the demos, because I’m checking to see if the theme has a full width option.

So far I don’t see page attributes on the dashboard, and it isn’t on the draft page. I set up a wordpress blog a couple years ago and had zero problems so this whole experience has been very strange.

  • Go to the WP-Admin dashboard: http://stevierayvaughantribute.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Click on Pages ->Add New (or All Pages ->Edit for an existing page). The page attributes module should be in that editor. If you don’t see it, click on Screen Options at the top of the screen, and make sure the Page attributes option is selected.

  • The page templates option should also be available in the new editor, but I think there it’s under Advanced options (I don’t use that editor, so I’m not sure).

Thank you for the help! I will try those recommendations and hope not to encounter any more alice-in-wonderland sorts of bewilderments. Ever since going back in with the rebuilt graphic it’s felt as though I’ve landed on the wrong side of the looking glass.

Oh well, no luck. Page Attributes was checked–under Screen Options–but there were 0 listed in the box titled Page Attributes. It feels like I’ve somehow landed in the wrong interface. None of this resembles what I was working with the first time I tried setting this page up.

Also didn’t see Advanced Options. Maybe the problem is the theme–my most recent attempt was in Plane. I’ll try a different one.

I never was able to access these templates or page attributes, but I seem to have been able to get the effect I was after using Nishita. So, case closed–thank you again for the help.

Not every theme has optional page templates. If no template options appear at Page Attributes, that means only the default template is available for that theme.
