Disappearing photos
-
I have one of the free wordpress accounts and have loved it until recently (emilievardaman.wordpress.com). Just in the last six months or so, I notice that photos on older posts disappear. I used to go online and look at an old post occasionally but now there are no photos. I found this out because a blog follower had put some links in a folder some months ago, and when she had time she opened the file to read and view the photos.
Why are photos on older blogs disappearing? How can I get them back? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Photos shouldn’t disappear unless someone actually removes them. Have you by any chance been linking to images hosted elsewhere? Or have you removed any images from your Media Library? That would also remove those images from your posts/pages they were associated with.
-
No. They are simply replaced by a blue box with a question mark in the middle. See my blog. The first few are okay. If you can get to October, The Cruise and Post Cruise, those are the problems. Likely all older than those also.
I removed some photos from my library, but very old ones. All the ones for these two blogs are there. -
But were those photos still required though to appear in your older posts?

Thanks for the info.
First, I had no idea that removing photos would affect my blog posts. I thought that once they were published, that was it.
I removed old ones from old posts because I was running out of media room. I did not, though, remove any from recent posts.

Images and media you upload into your media library and embed into posts and pages are on wordpress.COM servers. They remain visible unless or until you delete them from your media library. Deleting them from your media library also removes them from every place you embedded them in the blog and leaves behind broken links.
Staff cannot restore images you delete from your Media Library. You have to upload them all again, and then fix every broken image link in every post/page it was embedded into previously.
If you upload lots of images you can exhaust that free space allocation quickly. Currently, the only way to get an extra space allocation after you upload the images again, is to purchase an upgrade bundle. https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

You’re welcome.
Note that is you hotlinked to images that were hosted on another site, rather than uploading them into your Media library that could be the issue. The site they were on may have disabled their display as when the images were clicked that meant the bandwidth at the other site was being used.

Nope. None of the photos is there. All were my own photos. They’re still in my photo library so I could put them back in, but I just can’t imagine why they disappeared.

Hi there,
Earlier in this thread you replied:
I removed some photos from my library, but very old ones. All the ones for these two blogs are there.
I checked the images from the two posts you linked to, and all the images on those two posts are included in a batch of about 100 images you deleted on 23 December last year.
I don’t see any of those images in your media library at https://emilievardaman.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
There is no way to restore those deleted images, so if you still have them on your computer you’ll need to edit the posts and re-upload those images.

I deleted them? I sure didn’t want to or mean to! Can I re-upload them and put them back into the blog by editing it?
