Disappearing photos

  Hi.
  I need some advice please. A new reader of my blog has been reading old posts and the pictures in the 2014 posts are no longer accessible. Any ideas why? Is there a setting I can change? In case it matters, I a on the ‘paid for’ system, using Sorbet theme.

  If the images previously displayed were in the site’s media library, the most common cause of such disappearance would be that the images were deleted from the media library. Modifying image URLs in the library would have the same effect.

  Example of a URL for post http://motopangaea.com/2014/04/29/buns-and-bier/ containing an image that was deleted from your Media Library and can no longer be displayed in posts https://motopangaea.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/p1000054.jpg as it is not on wordpress.COM servers now.

  Thanks for the advice Guys. I think you’ve answered the question for me. Wouldn’t it be helpful if, when you delete a picture, you got a warning about the effects? I have to say that WordPress is the most user unfriendly system I’ve ever come across.

  I’ve worked out how to find the Google cache of the blog. The problem is that the cache date is 29th August 2015, which reflects the blog with the pictures deleted. Is there any way of reaching an older cache?

  You might find older Google caches of the blog, or specific posts or pages. But you’re looking for pictures, so it might be best to focus your Google searches on Images (Google Images). It will be helpful if you remember the file names, or approximate file names, of the images, though a category or other keyword plus the website title or address combined in a search might be enough.

  You can also try the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

  The way to display all posts and pages indexed by Google is to enter the following in the search bar:
  site:motopangaea.com
  Then click on the “Images” link above the results. Here are the results of a basic Google Images search for motopangaea.com.

  You can limit that search to a specific time frame by choosing Search tools > Time > Custom range…
