Disappearing posts

While drafting posts, categories and comment enabling doesn’t appear. Even more troubling is that my drafts have completely disappeared! I’ve saved them several times, as I normally do while drafting, but when I go to my dashboard, they’re not there at all and a search comes up empty.

Also, a several of my commenters/visitors have asked me where the comment link on my posts is. The link is not visible and I haven’t disabled comments on my posts/blog whatsoever.

    This is really irritating.

Can someone please help me with this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you referring to the blog linked to your username? Please try some troubleshooting. Which browser and version of it are you using? Have your tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.
    http://browsehappy.com/

Do you have third party cookies enabled? Do you have another browser you can try?

You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

Have you had any recent operating system and/or security updates? Sometimes operating system and/or security system updates can cause problems so check for known issues. When you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.

Also, a several of my commenters/visitors have asked me where the comment link on my posts is. The link is not visible and I haven’t disabled comments on my posts/blog whatsoever.

The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress and cannot be changed bu users. Unless you use the P2 theme, which is a Twitter-like theme, the front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

Thank you for your quick reply!

The issue is resolved. My computer was in the middle of a security update, but I also cleared my cookies just in case. I restarted everything and it worked. Thanks so much for such an informative post/suggestions!

Today I completed and scheduled two posts, one for tomorrow and one for next week. An hour later someone wanted to know something about the one for tomorrow. I was on a different computer by this time. That post had reverted to an earlier version and none of the editing from today was there. The other post is fine. I tried three different browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome) 2 computers and an ipad. All the same. Clearing the cache on my home computer did nothing.

I know that I scheduled the post that is OK after I edited, finished, saved and scheduled the one slated for tomorrow.

By the way, I love WordPress and Western civilization is not going to end because of this. My blog is Ornamento.wordpress.com and I am using Bueno.

    Any ideas?

Ms. timethief, on reflection, I think the problem was caused by what the FAA would call pilot error. I was in a hurry and I tried to schedule and save at the same time. Not a good idea. Now I know. I never did it before and I will never do it again.

    Thanks for your reply.
