Disappearing widgets
-
This should be fixed.
Please reload your blog pages and if problems persist, send in a ticket and detail what is wrong. Just saying “It’s still broken” won’t help me to help you.
Sorry for the error and the worry.

Hi Mark
There are several things still wrong with my site jonathanyoung.wordpress.com
For instance, I have dragged the Search widget into the Left Sidebar of my theme. On my page (which I have reloaded/refreshed) it appears on the Right Sidebar. On the Right Sidebar I have a Calendar widget. It does not appear at all.
I have several custom text widgets (both sides) they do not appear at all, anywhere.
I do not use the ‘Meta’ widget. It does appear on my page at the moment even though I have not opted to have one.
There are several other things along the same lines that do not work.
I have tried dragging all of the widgets out and back in, re-saving, reloading, refreshing. The only thing I have not yet done is to pick a different theme and go back to the one I am using (Garland) as I suspect this wouldn’t help either.
Hope we get a fix soon…

Hi, my sidebar site tuxpepino.wordpress.com is still broken. I changed some widgets, save the changes and update the site but always show the same: Search, Links and Blogroll.
Thx.

Andy is working on this. Give it a few more minutes. Sorry for saying it was fixed – I thought it was.

Still the exact same problem for me. Theme andreas09, widgets customisation is saved but display is default. Tried Shift-reload in Firefox 2, no change.

I have tested something with another blog i have here too (pepinosycentellas.wodpress.com) and that war perfect, without mistakes: If i change the theme to Freshy (I use in that blog Contempt), it happens the same with sidebar, only shows Search, Links and Blogroll. When I load Contempt again all my widgets return. I use in the other blog, the previous post, Freshy theme.
Perhaps the mistake can be relationated with themes ¿?¿?

I lost all of my widgets.
Is there such a function to save the widget on a harddisk so we can anticipate the same problem in the future ?

Hi. Some of my blogs have the same problem. I have reloaded the side bar (“saved changes” if that was what you have meant”) but still no change.
muzikveben.wordpress.com (theme: Almost Spring),
bigfatzero.wordpress.com (theme: Almost Spring) and
istanbulsweethome.wordpress.com (theme: Garland) doesn’t show the text, rss, vodpod widgets (those I have realized)my other blogs are working fine.
Am I supposed to send a feedback to support or shall I wait for you to fix it?
ps. also, I had changed the categories and archives widget to a drop-down list and added a tag cloud widget. Tag cloud doesn’t show up at all. Categories and archives have turned to its previous look – no drop downs but they are listed in the same old way –

hi there!
i found a super simple temporary solution that worked great with my blog.
i came straight here when i noticed the problems with my sidebar widgets, and found the support box message declaring support as unavailable. i was using the Andreas 09 theme, like so many people who are having this problem. my text widgets were gone, widgets i do not use were displayed, and my categories, search, and other widgets were in totally new positions! some had even jumped from the right sidebar to the left! since i only see the problem happening in Andreas 09 and Garland, i looked for another theme which uses the 3 column style to switch to and hopefully restore my original layout. it worked! i used the theme called 2813 and all is back to normal. as normal as can be with 2 sidebars on the same side of the window. if you are concerned more with the usability of your blog right now, i suggest using a different theme until wordpress sorts things out. then we can migrate back to the other themes when this is fixed.
if usability is not your main concern right now, then please, carry on. i just wanted to ease some of the anxiety from whoever can find comfort in this workaround.
to see the 2813 theme in glorious action, ogle its luxurious finish and soothing simplicity on HearingTest :

good luck during these troubled times! -

ahh, i see more info i could include about my experience with the problem – for support tech people’s sakes :
when i viewed my blog page, there were widgets displayed that i do not use and then the text widgets that i do use were missing entirely. meta had appeared, and the rss for comments and posts had appeared. categories and search were moved, archives had appeared.
BUT – when i went to the widgets option in the presentation section, to try fixing the widgets by hand, it LOOKED as if the widgets were all gone, and the original default view was displayed. you know, the way it looks on your first day before you touch anything. my instinct was to panic, but after looking at the comments on this thread, i was seeing that the problem was especially with the Garland and Andreas themes. so i simply switched to another theme, then immediately looked at the site. everything was restored! absolutely everything was present that should be, and nothing was displayed that shouldn’t. the appearances were quite deceiving, but that’s all it was (for me anyway), just appearances. the info was still there, it just needed a fresh interface in the form of a working theme.
BIG UP to the 2813 MASSIVE!!! Eli, Neil, and Paul – you rule! thanks for creating something that made it easy to sit this chaos out!!
good luck to everybody! i hope all your hard work is still available! -
Switching to 2813 fixed nothing for me. Plus, 2 right sidebars looks horrible. That’s why we chose andreas09 in the first place, you know :)
It’s not like blogs are completely crippled without custom sidebars – my advice is to just sit tight and be patient.

As this is a problem that’s occurring for everyone using those themes, a fix for one should be a fix for all. In other words, I wouldn’t bother sending a feedback if you’re experiencing the issue on a three-column theme or Freshy, which have been reported here. If you suddenly see the problem on a totally different theme, then send one in.
Feedback is re-opened, by the way.

I switched to Vault9 theme and widgets look good. Perhaps the problem is already fixed? Any way, I’m not gona change this template for a while… Just in case.

One last thing that has been wrong, apart from the widgets…
A few days ago, just before the weekend, I noticed that the Snap Preview stopped working for links contained in the sidebars. I.e. it worked fine within posts, but stopped working for most other things.
I figured at the time that something might have been wrong with the sidebar or widget code (or that Snapshots had been updated in a way that no longer worked).
3 days later we have this problem too… coincidence? Or has some work been done on the sidebar/widget part of WordPress?

I think they’ve been doing something to the sidebars; if memory serves, they’re on different servers from the rest of the blog. And the Snap thing was noticed and reported in the forum on Friday, but I’m not sure that a feedback or email has been sent in about it yet. Go ahead and do that.
-
I’ve sent one now. Basically a three or four line summary along the lines of…
– Widgets don’t work, have disappeared or show up in the wrong place in 3 column themes such as Garland.
– Previously Snap Preview stopped working the sidebars.
– Could the Snap Preview and Widget issues both relate to work done on the Sidebar code lately? We’ll see what happens next…
