Disappointed in new WordPress

For the most part, I was able to work with the new editor until I wanted to edit a published post (fix an error) and when I opened the post in the editor, adjacent paragraphs combined into one so I had 3 into 1 at the beginning, a heading (it kept the heading), then 4 into 1, then a heading, then 2 into 1 and then a heading, etc. I abandoned the correction, it would have been more work than it was worth.

This is obviously a serious error, not just a opinion.

timethief’s post that you quote is a week old. When she posted it, the thread was open. I’ve deleted your post.

The same rules apply here that applied in the other thread. I will remove posts that are disrespectful toward other users, and if I have to do that more than a couple of times, this thread will be closed.

To avoid that please remember commentary on the behavior of other users tends to result in personal attacks; when that happens, both parties risk having their forum privileges suspended.

This thread is being moderated so you don’t need to add the modlook tag here, but if you see violations of the Code of Conduct on other threads, please use the modlook tag to request staff intervention instead of policing the situation yourselves.

Sorry, but I really thought – I don’t know how I got that idea – that it had the time-stamp April 1. I would not have posted my comment otherwise.

    I’ve deleted your post.

I don’t think, though, that my post was disrespectful. So there was no need to delete it. Just – like you did – pointing out I wasn’t up-to-date would have been enough.
I hope you won’t consider this answer disrespectful to you since I have no intention at all to be responsible in any way for this forum to be closed.

It is just another case of “If it ain’t broke, WP will fix it..”

    @babso2you
Can you name me a blogging platform that’s frozen in time? I think I have explored almost every one (no kidding!) and have yet been able to locate one that is static. Moreover, I cannot locate a single one that beats what WordPress.COM offers free of charge. Change is inevitable and software is continually updated. Those who don’t enjoy bumpy rides during the rebuilding of this blogging platform may want to know exactly where they can go to blog on a platform where time stands still.

  • Unknown's avatar

No need to be this bumpy, if done with care, competence and respect for the users. No need to herd us into a poor rendition before it has been beta tested. Why ?

    @quatsino
The behavior you are experiencing is a known bug. We are working on fixing that.

We’ve had a couple of requests for an update on what’s been fixed, what we are working on and which features will not be ported to the new editor. I’ve addressed that here.

In an attempt to keep this thread focused and polite I’m being more strict that usual about what gets deleted.

    @ imperialtwilight,

Maybe if someone had military grade security…

How about Startpage or Ixquick? These don’t store user agent data.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @lizthefair

The disrespectful behaviour is from WP in forcing an inadequate bug-ridden editor on users! Banter on these threads is a minor matter, but certainly posts (not threads) should be deleted if they break any rules, of course.

They sky is not falling. No WordPress.com users are compelled to use only the new editor and suggesting that is the case is simply untrue.

Anyone who does not like what WordPress.COM has to offer is free to move their content elsewhere at any time. However, hijacking thread after thread and posting pseudo-comments that do not resolve the issues posed by the OP is spamming plain and simple.

@lizthefair When the updates include things such as alphabetizing the first twenty tags …. and allowing a date to be used as a tag …. and then informs us that we won’t be allowed revisions or the ability to copy a post …. well then it’s hard to be confident about the direction WP is moving.

Revisions are crucial to a serious writer. And why not the ability to copy a post. We’re being given silly tweaks while being deprived of genuine tools necessary for the professional writers and bloggers.

Alphabetizing the tags!!!!! Word Press considers this bit of fluff more important than giving us the ability to revise our posts.

What is going on?????? The Updates are even more disappointing than the new editor. With this unbelievably retrograde approach to the new editor, no wonder we’re not being given choice. It’s very clear the new editor can’t stand up to the option of choice.

    I can’t believe this.

  • Unknown's avatar

Whew! Just glad that I’m allowed to use the classic editor exclusively and never have to visit the new editor at all. Thank you. I see the come hither link to it there at the top, but you can’t entice me that easily.

    From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/32?replies=504

We’ve been asked for clarification on what’s been fixed, what we are working on, and which features from WP-admin are not being included in the new editor.

    Here is that update

    Recent updates

    • When you create or edit a page in the new editor you can now set or change the page template that is applied.
    • It’s now possible to use a year, or any other number as a category or tag in the new editor.
    • Your 100 most used tags and categories are loaded, then the first 20 are displayed alphabetically. Starting to type a category/tag name pulls up all the matching options.

Known Issues We are actively working on fixing the following issues.

    • Editing a post or page sometimes results in lost line breaks
    • The white edit box is rendering below the sidebar for some users

If you would like to report a specific bug or request a specific feature be added to the new editor please start a new thread with the “modlook and “new editor feedback” tags.

We will reply directly to all bug reports and use the feature requests to inform the continued iteration of the new WordPress.com dashboard.

Features that won’t be included in the new editor

    • Post Revisions
    • Copy a Post
    • Link back to wp-admin

Please use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 so you can create a new thread to report a specific bug or request a specific feature be added to the new editor, and please tag all such new editor bug report and new editor special feature requests threads with “modlook and “new editor feedback” tags in the sidebar of such threads.

Post by timethief on the end of the Classic editor:

You are not alone when it comes to your experience with the new editor which I shun. The intent is for the new editor to replace the classic editor. The development of the new editor and new dashboard have surpassed the one year mark. There will be no choices once the new editor is fully fledged because the classic editor will be gone. There may also be fewer hardboard navigation choices when the new dashboard is full fledged

Anyone who does not like what WordPress.COM has to offer is free to move their content elsewhere at any time.

Does timethief speak for WordPress administrators, developers, technicians and owners?

Have they removed access to the Classic editor because they intend to eliminate it?

And if we don’t like it, are we being told to leave?

You can still vote. 2807 signatories at last check.

Years ago I taught a meditation class. The objective was to clear the mind absolutely. To focus on a mantra or syllable and use it to “vacuum” the mind,

Well the ultimate problem is ambient noises … even someone’s breathing can be a distraction. I discovered the solution twenty years ago while leading a group in Montreal. I told them to ” acknowledge” each distraction by saying “Yes ” and then by going directly back to the meditation and their mantra. They were to stop their minds from analyzing each noise or random thought by admitting it existed ..”YES” … but then deliberately and firmly refusing to think or mentally “describe” it. This is the secret of effective meditation.

It is also essential in any campaign or cause. If I want to save mature trees from being felled on city streets, I don’t want to discuss what variety of grass is to be planted on traffic islands. I want to protect those trees.

We want the option to choose our editor and we what an answer why this simple application cannot be offered to us. That’s all.
