i pay 90 dollars a year for few advantages except that I can change freely the type of characters, but if I want a new Template, I have to pay again for most of them… Also, appearing of my site is very slow, maybe 15 seconds. I hope it’s better for you. I don’t see any advantage to get this abonement. P Rochot

    Hi @philrochot,

i pay 90 dollars a year for few advantages except that I can change freely the type of characters, but if I want a new Template, I have to pay again for most of them…

Premium themes are separate and come at an extra cost due to the amount of extra work that goes into their design and development.

Although the cost of Premium themes aren’t included, WordPress.com Premium does include many features to help you enhance your site. The plan enables you to:

    * Customise your theme’s look and feel with custom fonts, colours, and CSS.

    * Take ownership of your space on the web with a custom domain.

    * Upload videos and audio files as a result of the extra 10GB of space.

    * Create a site that will display no ads to your visitors.

    * Contact Happiness Engineers through live chat or email via our contact form.

We also have a high quality variety of free themes that have been hand picked for our repository. You can filter specifically for free themes here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/type/free/

Sela, Gateway, and Affinity are some of my favourite free themes at the moment. If you let me know a little about what your site is going to be about then maybe I could offer some further suggestions also.

Also, appearing of my site is very slow, maybe 15 seconds.

The home page on your site took about 5 seconds to load on my end. This is a little slower than an average site.

I believe the slower loading is due to your posts loading in their entirety and the large amount of images alongside them.

To get around this, I suggest using the more tag to create excerpts for your posts so that only one or two images display alongside them on the home page. You can read more information about the more tag and how to insert it into your posts here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/

In addition, it’s a good idea to optimise your images before uploading them so that they can be loaded as quickly as possible by your browser. We have the following guidance to help you optimise your images:

    Optimize Your Images

Hope that information is helpful! Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with any further questions.

    Hello !
I followed your advices and introduced excerpts in all the articles. So my website is loading faster… but not so fast than my photo-website wich includes more than 500 photos : http://philipperochot.piwigo.com/

For templates : the best for me is Baskerville because it accepts several parts in the menu. In fact few templates include a menu with several parts who allow to introduce links etc..
If I put videos on my wordpress, I’m afraid it will be once again very long to load..
    Than’ks anyway.
    Philippe.

    Hi Philippe,

Your site was very quick to load for me and it has a similar load time to the Baskerville demo site:

    https://baskervilledemo.wordpress.com

I also tested your site with Pingdom speed tools and it loaded in 1.49s:

    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cicchN/https://philipperochot.com

I think the delay is specific to the Baskerville theme.

In fact few templates include a menu with several parts who allow to introduce links etc..

You can create a menu with any of our themes. They will all let you create drop-down menus with custom links. Our support guide has instructions on how to do it:

    Menus

You can also embed videos from YouTube and other services and these won’t slow down the speed with which your site loads. Although there might be a delay when the user tries to watch the video depending on how large it is and their internet connection speed. More info on video embeds here:
