“discard” cannot add comments

I just tried posting a comment to an older blog post. When I hit “submit,” I got the message ‘discarded’ on an otherwise-blank screen.
I could comment when I was logged in to wordpress, but others were blocked from comments. Is their some sort of expiration on comments? Is there a setting I can adjust in my post to avoid my visitors getting this message?

Are you hosted here at wordpress.com? If so could we have a link to the blog and the blog post you had problems with?
There is no automatic expiration or closing of comments.

I just tried to leave a comment and it worked, as you can see. Maybe it was a temporary glitch?

I am getting the same problem – I am logged on and I try to post a comment and I get a blank screen (white) with “discarded” in the top left corner. Any ideas?

Please give us a link to your blog so we can check it out. There are so many errors floating around this weekend that it’s best to give way too much info rather than too little.
Please give:
A direct link to the blog, starting with http
The browser and version you’re using, like Firefox 2.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.13 or whatever
Your operating system, like Windows XP or so on
And let us know if you’ve updated your Flash to version 9. It’s important with these changes. -
Oh, also let us know whether or not you’ve performed the Cookie Dance, ie cleared your browser cache and cookies and done a forced reload.

I’ve cleared the cache and rebooted my machine (not sure what you mean by forced reload) and I’m still getting the “discarded” message with this URL http://slwa.wordpress.com/wp-comments-post.php. I am on a new (work) laptop running Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050928-1515 (SP2 =service pack 2?). I am running XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I have version 9,0,115,0 of flash installed. The blog is http://www.slwa.wordpress.com (I am one of several bloggers who contribute to the blog, the blog is for the State Library of Western Australia) – I am not one of the administrators. The post I am trying to add a comment to is http://slwa.wordpress.com/2008/02/04/social-networking-your-personal-finances/ . I am trying to add the following in the comments:
“Hoovers.com (a major US business information publisher) are getting into social networking their own way – see the press release at:

You might want to update Explorer. IE6 has always had issues with WP.com. That’s the only thing I can think of at the moment.
Thank you for posting your information so fully. If everyone did the same, it would save everyone so much time. I hope updating your IE works. You may also prefer to use Firefox, which is what most of the guys doing the coding at WP use, so a sort of unconscious FF Favoritism is built in. I am running it on a very old computer and it’s quite stable and not a huge program.

Thankyou – we are somewhat hamstrung on individual downloading of programmes by our IT policies, will see what I can do (had to get administrative permission enabled to update my flash player…) – and pass this on to our blog administrator so we don’t bug you unneccesarily!

I’m going to try on my home computer and see if it’s a network/firewall issue (we’ve had network/firewall issues with other software before)

Ow it’s happening on a home computer too – IE7, XP home ed, Service Pack 2. I can add comments to any postings I have written but if I try to comment on a blog posting by a colleague it doesn’t work. Either the page saying discarded or just a big fat nothing at all. Any ideas? Is it to do with having multiple log-ins accessing the same blog?

Also happens at other blogs, with Firefox, even after having just left a comment successfully. e.g., http://timpanogos.wordpress.com/2007/10/22/typewriter-of-the-moment-white-house-rosemary-woods/
The message itself is odd (plain word on blank background and nothing else)
I sent in a trouble ticket.
