Discontinuing Hosted Site

I started a hosted site six days ago and have had nothing but problems trying to get it set up. I’m thinking about discontinuing it because it’s still not working properly and I’m really frustrated. My question is…if I discontinue Bluehost (they give you 30 days) do I keep the WordPress site that was created even though it’s not functioning correctly?

You seem to have been doing some chopping and changing of sites and addresses recently. If you cancel hosting with Bluehost you’ll lose that WordPress.org site and the custom domain address you’ve set up (Perhaps rvjohnsonwriting4u.com ??) Is that what you really want to do?
If you’ve managed to post any content there in few days you’ve had the site that you wanted to save or bring to your free WordPress.com site here you’ll need to export a backup xml file first before cancelling the Bluehost site.
PS: Is there a particular reason why you left WordPress.com to go to self-hosted WordPress.org? Perhaps you ought to read this again. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Bluehost informed me that I don’t have a .org site, even thought I got an email saying I did. That’s another part of the confusion.I can’t post anything at the .com site because I can’t get into my wp-admin. There’s a message saying “oops this page can’t be found.” So I only have the front Home page. This is where my frustration lies.
The reason I wanted a .org hosted site is because of a class I was taking. That’s actually when I found out that the WordPress site I had was just for blogging. I’m just learning about websites and didn’t know that.
The instructor of the class does a tutorial with WordPress but what he was saying to do I didn’t have access to do and this is why I wanted a hosted site.
So…other than having to export a backup file to save info (that I don’t have) is it ok to discontinue Bluehost until maybe another time. Probably after I look at some “how to” videos.
But I don’t want to lose my domain name. You said that I might if I discontinued the .org site, but I have a rvjohnsonwriting4u.com site. Will I be able to keep that? -

These forums are only for questions about WordPress.com sites so you really should be talking to Bluehost and visiting https://wordpress.org/support/ for help regarding your self-hosted site.
PS: As far as I can see you have the Bluehost site set up here http://rvjohnsonwriting4u.com/ and it does have WordPress.org software. What makes you think it isn’t working properly? You haven’t put any content there yet. And WordPress.com isn’t just for blogs. It is quite versatile although you are limited regarding the more obscure plugins and e-commerce which is usually the main reason people want WordPress.org sites.

I spoke with a Bluehost rep on yesterday and he told me I do not have a .org site. I know I have a .com site but I can’t get into the wp-admin. It states that the page can’t be found.
I can get into the WordPress.com/wp-admin but my site was changed to just .com w/o the name WordPress in it or so the email I got said.Again, that’s why it’s been so confusing…and why I want to discontinue the hosting. I’m gonna keep the site I have. Like I said I needed the hosted site for a course I was taking
And I was also told that I needed a hosted site if I wanted it for my business.

You have a Bluehost site that ends in .com that uses WordPress.org software. That site’s address is http://rvjohnsonwriting4u.com/ That is where your confusion lies. That is your “.org” site.
You also have a WordPress.com site. That site’s address is https://rvjohnsonwriting4u.wordpress.com/
You will have different accounts and log in details for the two sites. They are separate and with different hosts. You are evidently mixing up the log in details for these different sites.

I know I had different accounts and yes I did log in differently. There were several problems. One was the Bluehost rep told me I didn’t have a .org account. I didn’t know and I guess the rep didn’t either that the site had .org software.
Anyway, another issue and like I said there were several….the theme I chose wouldn’t upload and then after I chose another one the “About” page, “Contact” page, etc stated that, the pages couldn’t be found.
Thank you again for your reply but I discontinued the hosting.
Maybe I’ll try it again in the near future…
