Discontinuing hosting to free up the domain for use with squarespace
-
Hello. I have cancelled my subscription to free up the url for use with squarespace, but the url is still unavaialbe. Is there some way to speed up the process? I guess to have wordpress actually press the cencel button. At the moment I’m told there will be a several month wait for the url to be free.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you want to use the domain with another provider, you need to transfer it, not cancel it. Cancelling a domain means you give up ownership, and cancelled domains are not released immediately. Depending on the registrar, the type of domain and when you cancelled it, it can be up to a year before the domain is available for registration again.
I can email our registrar and ask them to restore the domain to our account, and then you’ll be able to transfer it from here. But there is no way to manually release a cancelled domain.
Also note that as you cancelled your domain more than 5 days ago it might already be in redemption with our registrar, which means we’ll need to pay them an extra $80 fee to get it back, but we’ll only know that after we contact them to restore it.
Can you please confirm that you want to try and recover this domain?
