Discontinuing one blog but using the URL as new primary blog?

    Hello! Please see communication trail below! I am ready to move forward with this and could use help with what PCrumm suggested: “remove your existing domain mapping upgrade for you to use the domain.”

    I have two wordpress blogs (www.skills2competema.com and http://www.skillworks.wordpress.com) and would like to discontinue the http://www.skillworks.wordpress.com blog and then redirect followers of the http://www.skills2competema.com to the http://www.skillworks.wordpress.com site. How can I do that?

    Hey there,

    You can map your existing domain to this blog:
    http://www.skillworks.wordpress.com/

    This will cause http://www.skillworks.wordpress.com/ to be loaded whenever users navigate to http://www.skills2competema.com. You can choose which URL users see.

    If you’d like to do this, let me know, as I’ll need to remove your existing domain mapping upgrade for you to use the domain.

    I can also transfer your blog’s followers to the new location, if you’d like.

    Hi there,

    I can help you update your domain mapping. Could you confirm for me that you are trying to move your mapped domain, skills2competema.com, off of skills2competema.wordpress.com and on to skillworks.wordpress.com? If you confirm then I will removing the mapping from the former and let you add the mapping back for the latter.

    Let me make sure we’re on the same page, too.

    1) I want to discontinue using the skillworks.wordpress.com blog as it currently exists.
    2) I want to keep the content of the Skills2Competema.wordpress.com content and migrate it to the skillworks.wordpress.com url
    3) I want to redirect followers of the Skills2competema.com blog to the skillworks.wordpress.com url that now has all of the Skills2Competema.com content on it

    After you remove/change the domain mapping, are there additional steps I have to take to migrate the Skills2Compete blog content to the skillworks.wordpress.com url?

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the clarification. If that’s what you want to do, I think there’s a better way to do it than just changing your domain mapping.

    I can empty your skillworks.wordpress.com blog for you. Once I do that you will be able to export the content of skills2competema.com (http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/), and then import it to skillworks.wordpress.com (http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/). That gets you through your step 2, the content of skills2competema.com will be showing at skillworks.wordpress.com.

    After you have migrated your content, you can purchase the Site Redirect Upgrade for skills2competema.com in order to redirect your users to skillworks.wordpress.com.

    If that sounds correct to you, let me know that you are ready for me to empty your skillworks.wordpress.com blog in order to start the process. Please note that once I empty skillworks.wordpress.com YOU WILL LOSE THIS CONTENT. If you want to save the current content of skillworks.wordpress.com, you can export it ahead of time per the instructions I sent you above. That will give you an xml file of skillworks.wordpress.com as it is now to save prior to me emptying the site.

    Hi! Okay, I exported the skillworks.wordpress.com blog content and am ready for you to empty and import my skills2competema.com content.

    I have emptied your skillworks.wordpress.com blog for you. It’s ready for you to export the skills2competema.com and then import it into skillworks.

    Don’t forget that after you have skillworks.wordpress.com set up with the skills2competema.com content, you can purchase the Site Redirect Upgrade for the old skills2competema.com site so folks can find your new blog. I can also migrate your followers/subscribers for you if you let me know when you are ready.

    Thanks! I just exported and imported the content into skillworks. It would be great if you could migrate my followers and subscribers.

    Can I purchase the site redirect upgrade now, or when the import is completed? And I purchase it from the skills2competema.com dashboard, right? Not the skillworks dashboard? or does it matter?
