“Discussion” etc do not appear under post despite boxes checked in ScreenOptions

Despite checking the boxes for Excerpt, Send Trackbacks and Discussion under Screen Options on the top right corner of my post, I don’t see any of those things under my post. I would not even be as bothered if not for the fact that for some reason, whenever I edit posts now WordPress automatically disables comments on that post, and I can’t change it cuz I don’t have the Discussion box when I edit. Does this make sense? Can anyone help me?

Can we start with a link to your wordpress.COM blog? And if you are hosted here, consider linking it in your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.

First, go to settings > discussion and make sure that “Allow people to post comments on the article” is still selected. If not select it and then save your changes.
Next, log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and try again.

Hi, sorry–have now linked username to blog, am a newbie.
Tried your suggestions sacredpath–however “Allow people to post comments on the article” was selected all along, so don’t think problem’s there.
If you look at my blog now you can see that the top post (which I didn’t edit) has comments enabled, but the post below that is not. -
Go to “Cussing the clutch” and edit it and then under “discussion” and set things to allow comments. Make sure and save the post after making the change.

scaredpath–that’s the problem I described above. Under Editing the post there ARE none of the boxes I checked under Screen Options, namely “Discussion”. Believe me. I’m not sure what to do now.

Sorry I misspelled your name–Sacredpath. What I mean is what’s under the box where you can edit the post is just blank–nothing–there’re no boxes.

Did you log out, clear your browser cache and cookies and then restart your browser and try again to activate “discussion?”

We are looking into a bug with how the Screen Options are saved.
Can you try unchecking the boxes in Screen Options, reload the page, then check the boxes again?

Hi mtdewvirus, thanks a lot. Doing what you and sacredpath said works for all the boxes EXCEPT “Discussion”. Funny.
So I’ll just see if you guys can figure it out. Thanks!
