Disowned domain

I used to own the domain lowlandliquidart.com and I had just recently paid for owning the domain for another year. I did want the website to be gone and asked my IT guy to take it down so he disowned the domain.
I did however not know that I would lose the email address connected to the domain and I need this email address back.
Is there a way that I could recover the domain since I paid for it?WP.com: Yes

I can confirm that lowlandliquidart.com has expired due to cancellation and has been sent back to the registry. The good news is that we may be able to recover your domain, but there will be a late renewal fee to do so. This is charged to us by the registry, so we are not able to waive it for any reason.
Please check your inbox for the invoice we just sent, which will include a link to pay for the renewal of lowlandliquidart.com as well as the late renewal fee.
After you make payment please return here to let us know so we can take the next step to recover the domain. Typically when a domain is restored the settings are recovered with it but if you have issues with email access we would also be able to look into it.

No problem. We have finished the domain restoration and you’re all set to continue using it again. The email will now start working since the domain is active again.

I don’t see that you’re had been using WordPress.com for your email hosting previously, so it might be helpful for you to reach out to the company that provided your email services, as the cancellation of the domain may have affected their services.
Moreover, if you had configured domain MX records on WordPress.com, you would need to reconfigure them because those settings would have been removed when the domain was canceled.

In that case, could you please return the money for the domain I just bought for another year including the late renewal fees? As I mentioned before, I only needed the domain for my email address, so since that apparently has nothing to do with wordpress I do not need to own the domain for another year and feel that could have been mentioned before. Thanks for your help.

Domain redemption fees are mandated b ICANN and are not refundable. See here for more information:

But more importantly, you will NEED to own the domain registration in order to set up your email again, even if it was not through us. Canceling the domain will likely set you back in the process to solve this issue. I would encourage you to pick and email provider, follow their instructions, and get your email up and running again. in the future you can move the domain away from WordPress.com to another registrar if you wish.At the end of the day, if you want to get the email address running again, you have to have the domain registered somewhere.
