Display bug in Syntax theme on Chrome/Android

Using the Automattic-supplied Syntax theme, Chrome/Android (version 42.0.2311.111) sporadically swallows spaces between text and links in the (see screenshot). “Sporadically” as in, sometimes it renders fine, sometimes it doesn’t.

Might be an upstream Chrome bug but curious if others have encountered it and/or if there are known workarounds. Thanks for any help — I like the theme and would prefer to keep it :-)

Update: I just saw the issue once in Chrome on desktop as well (version 42.0.2311.90). Again, it happens sporadically on some page loads.

  • Hi there. It’s not just in Chrome. I was able to replicate the same problem in Firefox on my PC. It appears it doesn’t correctly adjust the text if the screen width is very narrow. As one will rarely use such a narrow screen width on a computer, most likely only people reading your blog on a phone would notice this.

I’ll tag this for staff to follow up. Hopefully they can fix this for you. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

I’ve been unable to replicate on the theme demo site, though I saw the issue immediately on your site, using Chrome for desktop 42.0.2311.152

Also as you mentioned, I only saw it this once. Later refreshes it appeared fine. I will report this to the theme team and see if they can come up with any ideas.

Have you seen this occur on multiple posts, or only your most recent one? I wonder if the Youtube embed has something to do with it.

Thank you both for your quick responses. :-) Either you already changed something, or this bug is very elusive! I’m not able to reproduce it right now (testing on my phone, in private browser windows of multiple sizes, in Firefox, and using automatic screenshot generation in 25 browsers at browserstack.com). I’ve only seen it on the post with the YouTube embed, but I only saw it a couple of times total. This is a post with links but no embed, in case you can still repro it. Thanks again!
