display comments at dedicated page

    [timethief explained I can’t embed a widget into a page, only into the sidebar, so here’s a different question:]

    At http://www.gapsguide.com, I’m using the excellent ‘comments’ widget in my navigation, asking it to display the most recent three. I don’t make it longer because I want this feature highly visible (toward the top of the nav), yet not overshadowing the rest of the navigation. At the same time, I’d like to present somewhere (else) on the blog a presentation of the most recent, say, 50, comments so that readers can scroll through all of that week’s. I had the idea of creating a page for ‘comments’, and pasting the ‘recent comments’ widget to its content field, but learned that’s not possible. Is there another way/idea for dedicating a taller -but secondary- section of the blog to ‘recent comments’?

    Thanks.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    There is no dynamic way you can set this up. We cannot edit either how widgets operate including Recent Comments widgets. And we cannot edit themes or templates and change any functionality at all. All blogs wearing the same theme here are using the same template. We cannot access of edit those files; only Staff can, as every edit them make affects all blogs wearing the same theme.

    You either create a static page and place the comment links on it manually and update them manually or you are out of luck.

    But you can see all the latest comments if you click the Comments RSS tab on your header. So if you wish you can create a link to this URL in a widget or a page:
    feed://gapsguide.com/comments/feed/
    The number of comments to show is set in Settings > Reading > “Syndication feeds show the most recent”

    @Panos
    Good thinking. Subscribing to the comments feed was so obvious that I missed it. lol :D

    Thanks. I didn’t think of it immediately myself either, because I was stuck to if and how you can make the comments show up on an actual blog page. But I think a link to the feed in a text widget or an image widget is close to what the OP is looking for.

    @Panos
    I think that simply informing readers they can subscribe to the comments on the blog will work.

    Sure – that’s up to the OP. (My impression is they want it on the blog somewhere.)

    Thank you, panaghiotisadam!!! This is a great solution!!!! Not displaying comments directly on a blog page, sure, but an awesome second option for supporting readers who want to see all comments on one webpage. I can envision this now and will create it shortly. I really appreciate your help.

    timethief: Big thanks to you, too, for helping me clarify the need/topic via the initial discussion, supporting active discussion, and helping to explore this topic! I really appreciate it!
