Display comments on showcase pages

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
    I changed a couple of pages of my bolg (Twenty Eleven theme) so they use the showcase template (allowing me to display larger pictures). Now the comments that were made previously do not show anymore. The comment box is also gone. For instance this page: actually has comments but they do not show.

    Is there a piece of code I can add to the customized CSS to display the comments and the box?

    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards,

    Your link to whichever page didn’t show up. When I look at your blog I see comment boxes available on both posts and pages. For instance the page http://ateliermadman.com/horlogerie/ shows a comment box for me.

    You may need to clear your cache and restart your browser if they aren’t showing for you.

    The Horlogerie page uses a default template. Comments show, this is ok.
    The DC3 Dakota uses a showcase template, hence no comments.
    The same question : how to add comments back to pages using the showcase template?

    Pages set to a showcase templates do not show comments. It is a special use sort of template for showing posts in a unique way.

    No way to tweak them with CSS to show the comments ?
    I could remove the recent posts they usually show at the end with
    .page-template-showcase-php section.recent-posts {
    display:none;
    }

    so I thought there would be s similar code to display the comments.

    CSS is a styling document that a browser uses to place and style elements of a page. It cannot be used to add functionality that is not there already in the markup (XHTML).

    The code you reference was to hide the recent posts section on a showcase page because the person was using the page for something that it was not designed for.

    I thought is was there and just hidden by the default CSS. I was wrong apparently…
    Thanks for the help anyway :-)

    Theme designers do not generally include functionality and then hide it via CSS. They may have things you can activate or deactivate at appearance > theme options, but they don’t generally activate and deactivate things by having you edit the CSS, at least not for the past few years.

    Set your pages back to a page template other than showcase. Even on a page with posts such as the main page that is set to the showcase template it will not show comments. The showcase template is not designed that way.

    What was it about the showcase template that you wanted on your static pages? It is highly likely that we can help you achieve that with some CSS changes.

    I want the comments feature (post and display) added to the showcase template.

    The first thing you need to do is to familiarize yourself with the way that twenty eleven and the showcase page works, and it will never show comments. Comments will only appear on the single-post page that you get after clicking on either a read more link, or by clicking on the title of a post on the main (or showcase) page.
