display: none to hide “ads”?

Hey, a quick question: am I allowed to use display: none in CSS to hide various things on my blog, more specifically the “Blog at WordPress.com” link and such? (I couldn’t find anything about this neither in the ToS nor at the Support pages.)

It’s considered very bad form to accept the free blog and disable the link giving credit. But I suppose it’s possible.

If I’m able to edit CSS it means I’ve already paid $15 for a feature that costs virtually nothing to WordPress.com, so that argument is somewhat flawed in my opinion. But thanks for the answer anyway.

It’s better to pay for the no ad option since advertising at times is needed.

  • @musigh hosting your blog and providing support costs money. That’s why we occasionally run ads on it.

If you think there’s a reason ads shouldn’t be run on your blog, you can tell support staff.

@dreamsburnred No-ads doesn’t remove the “Blog at WordPress.com” link either, does it?

@tellyworth My question was directed at the “Blog at WordPress.com” link, not the Google ads.

  • @musigh sorry, my bad – totally misread that, obviously.

There’s nothing in the ToS and I don’t think we’ve ever had a complaint or issue over it.

Not something we’d want to encourage, because the footer helps people know where you’re hosted if there’s a problem or question, and we think it’s fair to give credit to the theme author.

@tellyworth Thank you for the detailed reply – I’ll flag the topic as resolved. I plan to add WordPress.com to my blogroll anyway, and since I’m “upgrading” the Sandbox: No Stylesheet theme it’ll be entirely my own theme, so there is pretty much no one to give credit to.
