Display post summaries/excerpts only on the homepage.
-
Hi there,
How do I make the blog posts on my homepage display only summary text? I tried doing this via Dashboard > Settings > Writing > For each article in a feed, show > Summary. But my homepage still displays the entirety of every post.

The setting you found on the Settings → Reading page is only for feeds, not the home page.
You can use the more tag to show just a portion of each post on the home page:

Thank you, that works! I just wish I could automate this feature and then make tweaks on the excerpt if need be.

You know, there may be a couple themes that have snippets like that built in. Inuit Types comes to mind. You may want to try previewing some of the themes to see what else you can find.
At WordPress.com, if there’s any option like that, it would be built into the theme and it would either be automated or allow you do do the more tag to tweak the snippet manually, but not both.
