Display posts shortcode with a strange limitation?
-
Hi,
I would like to have an alphabetical list of my posts in my sidebar. After a hint in the German forum I used the display posts shortcode [display-posts posts_per_page="-1" order="ASC" orderby="title"]
Looks great at first glance … but then I found out, the list is only from “A” to “N”! (Same results, when I use the code in a post).
Is this a bug or a limitation of only 100 posts?
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry I don’t know the answer. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

The Display Posts Shortcode has a limit of 100 posts displayed.
You can read more about the Display Posts Shortcode at: http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/

Which begs the question why is that and can’t it be removed?
The paragraph about the limit must have been added fairly recently, because when quartettblog asked in the german forum and I recommended the display-posts shortcode, I checked the corresponding support page. I’m 100% certain I didn’t read anything about a limit there. :)
[display-posts category="must-read" posts_per_page="-1" include_date="true" order="ASC" orderby="title"]
The support page clearly states, the shortcode above will list every post in the Must Read category, in alphabetical order, with the date appended to the end.
Given the new limit this would mean if I have more than 100 posts in the “Must Read” category, it would in fact not list every post, wouldn’t it?
Cheers

I’m so glad I read this thread. I tried this too on one of my blogs and found not all post could be displayed. I knew I had not done anything wrong and I decided this shortcode was useless to me.

We’ve got this limit because it tends to be resource intensive on some sites.
There’s a workaround you can try to use:
[display-posts offset="100" posts_per_page="200"]

Hi,
thanks for the answers (and for adding the paragraph with the limit to the support site…) . I tried your workaround and it works fine! Now I have a complete content table with 180 posts in alphabetical order in a widget.
The question is, can you tell me the workaround code for 200+ posts? I will need it by the end of the year.
Thank you! -
