Display problem seemingly related to IP address?

I’ve been using wordpress for a couple of weeks without incident. All of a sudden this week, all the computers in my house display it as just text and hyperlinks (see screen shot below):

It doesn’t matter what computer (xp, osx) or browser (firefox, IE, safari) – I’ve cleared caches, cookies, etc, but nothing works. When I access it from work or a public computer, it displays properly. Is this a common problem? Should I change my network settings?

  • What happens if you click on this link? –

    Is there an error message?

I’m thinking it’s either your virus/spyware protection/firewall or your connection. You are not the only person to report such a thing this week, though: are you by chance in the Far East or Middle East? It could be related to the outages there because of the cable severings.

I’m having the same problem, although I haven’t tried it yet on a different computer.

  • leighisme: same question as above. What happens when you click on that link? Is there an error message?

tellyworth: nothing happens for me. It’s a blank page.

raincoaster: I think it must be the connection, since it shows up the same on two very different computers with different spyware protection etc. I’m in Canada.

  • You should see about a dozen lines of CSS code when you click on that link. If you don’t, something is blocking your access to s.wordpress.com.

It could be a local network problem, a DNS problem, firewall software installed on your PC, a firewall in your router/dsl/cable modem, a problem with your ISP, a censoring firewall if you’re in a country like China, Turkey or Germany, a caching problem, or probably many other things I haven’t thought of. Unfortunately it’s hard to tell which of those is at fault.

I can tell you that s.wordpress.com is working just fine, so if you can’t access it there’s a problem somewhere between your computer and our data center.
