display short code in widget HTML box

    I want to only display the pages with small description into an HTML widget so I can display it in my side bar. I have a parent page called My Poetry. And it has poetry pages as its children. I only want to display the children (poetry) in the widget on the side bar. What is the short code to do that? or is there another way?
