Display summary on main page not working?

    Howdy howdy,

    I’m new here and am just finished setting up the framework and stuff for my blog, but the front page displays the whoooooole post. I want it to display a summary or first paragraph, then if you click the post title/Read more then it goes to the post page with the full post). How do I do that?

    I thought it was in dashboard/settings/reading but I have it set to summary for the “For each article in a feed, show” option yesterday. Does the free theme I use not support that? Does it need a couple days for the options to update? Was there somewhere else I need to fiddle?

    This may have to do with the widgets on the right side of the site. Try removing the widgets and see if the posts will display as a summary.

    Nope, I tried removing the ones on the right side, didn’t work. I tried removing all the widget, still look the same. It doesn’t show summary when you go to my blog, does it?

    Any other ideas?

    Resolved, turns out that’s what the “more” tag is for.

    Yes you can use the more tag on posts on any theme that does not provide automatic excerpts on the front page.
    If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.

    Note also that this setting is only for the RSS feed > Settings > Reading and select “summary” rather than “full text” for the RSS Feed entry and then click “save changes” .

    For each article in a feed, show
    _ Full text
    _ Summary
    “save changes”

    Also note that you can use a theme designed to display only excerpts on the front page automatically. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content.
