Displaying child categories as a drop-down in the sidebar

Is it possible to display a list of parent categories with a drop-down of child categories in the sidebar?
I only want the parent categories visible in the sidebar but the ability to click them or hover over them to display the child categories.
I’m using the “The Morning After” theme.

This isn’t a theme specific issue. With the exception of one theme that’s not widget equipped, we use the same Categories widget on all blogs wearing all themes. What we can do is
Show as dropdown
Show post counts
Show hierarchy – If you have parent and child categories (subcategories within main categories) you can choose to display the hierarchy (pictured below) or just leave the list “flat,” without indicating which subcategories fit inside your main categories (pictured above). You can show category hierarchies with both the list and dropdown menu formats.
