Displaying clickable images with carousel

I am studying photography and need to post images on my blog. I can see other student blogs where when you click on an image it brings up a black screen with the image, camera info at the side, a comment box and the ability to move through a “carousel”(?) of images by clicking the arrow to the side.

    Looks like this:

    https://kateastonoca.wordpress.com/2015/04/19/project-2-exercise-1-6-light-and-shadow/#jp-carousel-217

When my images are clicked (and this only works if I upload a group and use the mosaic option) a new tab is opened with a very large version of the image – looks like this

    No additional info, no carousel.

My fellow students do not have any additional plug ins they say or business/premium WordPress plans.

I am editing photos in Photoshop and Lightroom then saving them as jpegs on my mac and selected them as media to add through the WordPress media page.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks so much

    Michelle

Hi there, see this support page on galleries and slideshows.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/

Images in Galleries, when clicked, bring up a carousel overlay on the current page.
