Displaying Comments on Posts

I am starting a new book discussion blog and would like to make it so the comments for a post are always visible under the post. Is this possible?

Also, is there a limit to the number of comments that will appear for a post?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The location where comments appear is coded into the theme. I have not noticed comments appearing anywhere other than at the end of posts assuming that the blogger has allowed comments at all. The only way to limit comments is for the blogger to turn the setting “allow comments” off. It’s often recommended that comments on very old post be set to “disallow” comments as these provide an opening for spammers to try and get into your blog with their advertising links. This can happen easily if you do not moderate your comments.

Comments are diplayed on the individual post’s pages. There are way to have them displayed on the home page for example but not with the version of WordPress that we have here. (ie You can do it with specific themes with the downloadable version of WordPress from wordpress.org if you want but that’s different from what we have here.)

There’s no limit on the number of comments with the possible exception of your browser window being able to display that big of a page. For example, IE 6 starts moaning about 1.5 megs.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply, but I don’t really want the comments displayed on my home page. What I would like is that when people go to a particular post, the comments are visible already without them having to click on “comments”. Do you know what I mean? The comments would always be visible for every post. If there is a theme that does this, great. ANy help here would be appreciated.

If they go to a particular post, the comments are displayed. The only time they should see the comment slink is when they’re on the home page.

For example, when you go to this post, you can see the comments.

is there any way to show only 2 comments per page?

That one’s easy: only if you simply delete all the others.

iriefilms: if you want to make it so, it might discourage your readers from reading the rest of the comments.

Can I have the comments come up with most recent comment first (instead of it being added to the end of the comment list)? I have been looking and can’t find a way to sort the comments by date/time. Any suggestions?

There isn’t an option like that as far as I know.

As with all feature requests, staff has asked they be sent in via feedback on your dashboard. And you get bonus points for giving reasons why you’d like to see something implemented.

    Howdy all.

Is there a way to delete the comments hyperlink entirely? Let me explain…

Take a peek at my blog and you’ll see that we’re using WordPress for both commentary and to drive traffic to our discussion forum. But I’d like to place a ‘comments’ hyperlink to the forum and simply not use the WordPress hyperlink.

    Any suggestions?

    Jeff

WordPress.com blogs are non-commercial blogs. The ToS contract term section 2 in the 5th bullet down we agree to here states wordpress.com blogs cannot be used to drive traffic to third party sites.

The FAQs states the only advertising allowed is one link to your business either in the sidebar or on your about page. Violating this contract term and the policy can result in blog suspension or deletion.

I clicked your username and the link you posted. This is not a wordpress.com blog. It appears you just posted to spam our forum with your links – sigh – reported.

If you are hosted elsewhere, you need to be over at http://wordpress.org as that’s the support site for the software. These forums are for those blogs hosted here at wp.com. The software is different so our answers would be different as well.
