Displaying HTML code

  I made a button for my blog, but how do I display the html code for it? If I enter the html coding on my sidebar, it shows up as the button. I thought the code tag prevented that from happening, but it didn’t work for me. How can I put up the actual code so that people can copy it to their blog editor, where it then displays as my button?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  I am trying to post code in a text box to display an image. But it isn’t working Am I on the wrong track? Also, can I display my own newsletter sign up box on wordpress? I am a newbie, so thanks for your patience.
