Displaying HTMLS files

  • Unknown's avatar

My web page displays 25 HTMLS files that are book chapters. For historical reasons (that’s where I started the book) they are currently stored at Powweb.com. Every time I open Powweb, I see ‘$3.88/month, and FREE domain name’. Today I discovered that they are actually charging me $21/month. Bait and switch. There must be a way to keep the HTML pages at WordPress, but when I asked about once the response was something like, ‘It simple. You just setup SQL and PHP and etc, etc.’ Um. I know nothing about this Squeal bit. Can anyone point me at the starting gate?

  • Hi there,

What is your website? I don’t see any sites in your account.

I’m also not sure what you mean by HTML files. If you can give me a link to your site so I can check it I’ll be better able to tell you what would be needed to move it over here.

Sorry to be so tardy in responding. I keep forgetting where I have asked questions, even though this is an important one in the long term. Powweb.com, where my html files are hosted, does bait-and-switch advertizing, with a prominent “$3.88/month” on display, and suddenly, “You owe us $256!”. So I’d like to leave them behind.

A starting point from which I call 5 files is
, and the page reads thus:

Religion must have been useful for it to become so important to us, so we need to understand what that utility was. All we know about god is filtered through the human brain—which thereby becomes the place to start our investigation. The links below explore these preliminaries in some detail....

<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_G/Glo.shtml">X TOPIC INDEX</a> – Or at least section headings.
<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_A/A00.shtml">0 PREFACE</a> — The purpose of religion is not salvation.
<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_A/A01.shtml">1 THE BRAIN</a> — Meditation may not take us where we always thought it did.
<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_A/A02.shtml">2 BICAMERALITY</a> — Unlike computers, the developing brain writes its own operating system.
<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_A/A03.shtml">3 REVELATION</a> — Revelation is psychology, misunderstood as theology.
<a href="http://electromontis.net/evoligion/_A/A04.shtml">4 STORIES</a> — Religion is best understood as a variety of domestication.

The goal is to shut down the electromontis .net site.

There’s some confusion over account names. The chapters are now under (email visible only to moderators and staff). Two reasons. The first is that under the influence of the “strong passphrase” crowd, I joined WordPress from Hushmail, with, as noted, a strong passphrase. Then I neglected to access Hushmail every 21 days and they closed my free account, taking the passphrase with it. I could never thereafter get WordPress to give me access to the ferrenm account, so I couldn’t edit it. Eventually I transferred everything to the bfbecula account.

The 2nd reason is that if the wrong person reads Chap 15, I’m likely to earn a fatwa, so I write under a nom de plume. Life is complicated.

  • Okay, so this is content on a site not on WordPress.com that you want to bring into https://bfbecula.wordpress.com/, correct?

It’s not possible to import HTML files to WordPress.com, so you’ll need to copy the actual text content of those files and paste them into posts/pages on the WordPress.com site. We have a page on using a WordPress.com to publish a book here:

    Write a Book

I’m not sure what you mean regarding the account. You started this thread as the username ferrenm. Are you saying you’re now unable to access that account? If you have access to either the email address you used for that account or still have the activation email you should be able to regain access to that account.
